I bank with Banco De Oro and have observed over the past 6 months how aggressively they’ve been developing banking services for OFWs. Their flyer reads:
BDO Asenso Kabayan
Laging Maaasahan, kahit saan
Here’s a quick rundown of their services:
- BDO Kabayan savings - Peso or US Dollar account, Passbook and International ATM Card, as low as P100 initial deposit, easy way to receive remittance.
- BDO Remit - Cash Pick-up at BDO Branches, SM Dep’t stores, BDO Onsite Service Outlets, Rural Bank Partners.
- BDO Remit Cash Cards - Online remittance, Available 24/7, withdraw from 3,000 ATMs of BDO, Expressnet and Megalink
- BDO Kabayan Loans - BDO Kabayan Home Loan, BDO Kabayan Auto Loan, BDO Kabayan personal Loan (capital for business or emergencies)
- BDO Kabayan Homes - housing for as low as P3,700 around Angono Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon City
- BDO Kabayan Bills Bayad - Pay bills from other countries, gives the OFW control over Philippine-household finances
It’s a good set of services. I also like the unified marketing of the services, it helps OFWs get a good quick glimpse of services available.
I’m especially pleased with BDO Kabayan Bills Bayad. It adresses a concern I wrote in a previous article, Edong’s Dreams - Mobile Services for OFWs.
Home Finance Management - enabling OFWs to pay school tuition fees or house bills or rent-to-own house payments *directly* instead of sending the money to Tito Boy who ends up making the videoke bar rich. To some extent, this is already happening as telcos allow OFWs in Hong Kong or Japan to load cellphones of relatives in the Philippines.
The BDO Flyer does not have specifics, though, about the BDO Kabayan Bills Bayad. Is it done over-the-counter at affiliate offices? Is it done online? What bills can the OFW pay for?
Keep it up, BDO. I’ll be watching out for more.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI read your post on BDO Asenso Kabayan. I believe the bills payment can be done via BDO’s affiliate or remittance tie-ups. You just bring the necessary info regarding the bill you need to pay (i.e. biller / merchant name, subscriber number etc.). I am just not sure what bills can be paid here so I think contacting their call center is the best option.
Cheers and happy banking with BDO!

Hi Mary,
As far as I know, you’ll need to walk up to a BDO branch or affiliate and apply for the services.
Next time you’re here in the Philippines, do visit a BDO branch.
Goodluck!

Hi Mary,
On this page there’s a list of kuwait *Remittance* partners of BDO.

Ka Edong,
Hi! po. Ano po ba ang difference kung tie-ups ung mga bank with BDO or not?
Bank po kc nya is Bank of America, but I’ve seen po ung list of affiliated bank nyo BOA is not included, rather ung PERA po ang included near their residence (Daly City). Ano po ba mas magandang gawin namin to open an Asenso Kabayan Accnt.?
Thanks. God Bless

I had a bad experience in applying for loan to BDO.. sending all my documents here from Dubai, UAE to the Philippines thru ARAMEX, personally u have to follow up requirements.. then again faxing additional requirements and waited for 2 weeks actually more than a month in total…just to know that I was denied, or disapprove for the loan…
I ask the call center for reasons, they said its confidential.. Its so un professional tha after completing and spending time & money for the requirements, BDO will just say its not approve.. on what grounds? did I missed something.. they just said its confidential… Hindi dapat “Asenso Kabayan” kundi Parusa Kabayan” with BDO!

I told my wife to open an acount to BDO and for my remittance as I am using Western Union for four years now in sending money.. but from my experience sa mga tamad at kailangan pa ikaw manuyo sa mga tao ng BDO.. its not worth..if sa appliceation palang bulok na,, pano pag pag nka- loan ka na..dami negative blogs d2 sa net about BDO.. kawawa naman mga OFW.. my negative comments are for my fellow OFW at sa BDO na din masyado paimportante.. improve your dealing and procedures or no need just change the Asenso Kabayan name to Asenso BDO lang.. mga tamad, mga ma eere tao nyo jan.. mag work nlng kayo abroad ndi iyon pinupurwisyo nyo mga OFW sa katamadan nyo.
